Former HIMSA Drummer Joins WITCHBURN
September 13, 2008Former HIMSA drummer Joe Frothingham has joined the sludgy Seattle-based doom/stoner metal outfit WITCHBURN.
Frothingham replaced longtime HIMSA drummer Chad Davis shortly after the release of what would prove to be the band's final album, "Summon In Thunder", and took part in HIMSA's U.S. tour supporting AMON AMARTH and as well as the group's last European headlining trek.
According to a press release, WITCHBURN is a bit of a departure from the HIMSA sound, drawing more on the slower, broken down, groove-laden sounds more reminiscent of bands such as DOWN, CLUTCH or THE SWORD (all of which, of course, owe a considerable debt to BLACK SABBATH). WITCHBURN is also notable in the fact that the line up is 60% female, featuring vocalist Jamie Nova, who also performs in the premier (and Angus Young-approved),all-female AC/DC tribute act HELL'S BELLES, bassist Jessica Bos (formerly of the now-defunct Seattle act TRANQUILIZED),and guitarist (and part-time violinist) Mischa Kianne, who previously played in the Seattle band DROP SIX. Rounding out the lineup is Jacy Peckham, who, in addition to providing a second helping of fat, sludgy guitar lines to WITCHBURN, also performed alongside Kianne in DROP SIX (although he did so on bass).
